Objective

The Requirements and Program Development Section in the Aviation Branch (ESRL/NOAA) defines requirements for generating and disseminating aviation weather products by:

  • Working closely with aviation users and FAA to understand aviation operations and requirements for better weather information
  • Working closely with NWS to understand NWS operations and role in providing weather information to aviation end users
  • Identifying cost-effective advanced technology solutions that address requirements
  • Establishing and lead development/prototyping programs--within ESRL, with other organizations (e.g., NCAR), and with private sector
  • Working closely with users during development/prototyping to ensure that solutions have maximum utility to operations
  • Transfering solutions to NWS for operational implementation and/or private sector for marketing.
